Jodie’s Time at Voyager Software – What a Journey!

How come you joined Voyager, what was the onboarding like?

I have always been a creative person and after finishing college I wanted to start a career in marketing. I believed that an apprenticeship would be more valuable to me rather than going to university as it would allow me to gain hands on experience as well as qualifications.

Voyager was hiring for a marketing apprentice at the time so it was a good opportunity for me. After going to my interview, Voyager seemed to be an established and solid company, offering a fun working environment with good work perks. Shortly after my interview I joined as an apprentice, attending college regularly at Basingstoke ITEC whilst gaining experience at Voyager.

Was you nervous or even scared in the first month?

Both. It was my first office job and something that I had no experience in so it was only natural to feel that way. I soon felt comfortable though with everyone being friendly and supportive, and I’ve come a long way since joining last January.

At what point did you realise Voyager was going to be a great place to start your career?

Soon after I started. I realised it was a fast-paced working environment which gave me the ability to develop my skill set in a range of different areas.

‘The Team’ – how did you feel the dynamics worked?

We have a great team here at Voyager with everyone able to contribute different things, making us the best that we can be. Everyone at Voyager works hard but has fun at the same time, going for regular team lunches and social outings.

How have you found the creative side of your role – what’s your favourite bit?

I’m a creative person so I have really enjoyed my role, particularly the social media side of marketing such as creating social media videos, promoting competitions and staying up to date with the latest recruitment industry news. I also enjoyed the email marketing side of things as there’s so many different elements to it and a marketing strategy which I feel is really effective.

How did working to deadlines and under time pressures feel?

I’ve always enjoyed working to deadlines and feel that it is essential in marketing. I feel that I work to the best of my ability under pressure and get a better sense of satisfaction once the job is complete.

Would you recommend the apprenticeship scheme at Voyager?

Definitely, the apprenticeship scheme offers you a huge amount of support and develops you in to a confident and skilled marketer.

It enables you to get hands on experience in the marketing field in a range of different sectors such as: social media, email marketing, content marketing and more. This is really valuable, and to add to it you can also gain many different qualfications to further enhance your knowledge and become more valuable to future employers. Since joining as an apprentice I have gained various qualifications including Google Analytics and Coding which have both helped me to develop in my marketing career and progress. It’s a win-win situation.

What’s next for Jodie?

It’s great that companies like Voyager Software recognise the benefits an apprentice can bring to a dynamic organisation, I’m not the first and won’t be the last at Voyager I’m sure.

I’ll always be grateful for the time, effort, patience and knowledge Voyager has installed in me, but it’s time to take the next step.

Having recently got engaged, I’ve now accepted a similar role with an employer much closer to home.

It was indeed the stepping stone in a career in marketing – it’s been a blast!
