Massive candidate applications increase adds more recruiter pain

Recruitment is like ‘shooting fish in a barrel’. Except the barrel is an ocean, and the only fish is hiding behind sharks, dolphins and seaweed… In many sectors the volume of candidate applications has gone through the roof in recent months.

The increased time to hire adds cost, admin and uncertainty to the hiring process, and significantly reduces the likelihood of someone starting the role. At a time when some say Recruitment should be easier than ever, many are feeling the pain of the ‘no win, no fee’ business model.

Simon Benford, Director at Pertemps Managed Solutions added his view which explained things very well: “Stats are coming through that people are applying for at least 8 times more jobs than before the Covid-19 pandemic, and the challenge for talent acquisition teams is now reverting to managing this volume of applications whilst managing an effective candidate engagement.”

Simply put, right now there are millions of active jobseekers, which equates to tens of millions of online applications, with some sectors experiencing a 30% increase.
