  • Where will my data be hosted? If you are located in the UK, your data should also reside in the UK. The further away your data is, the longer it takes to reach it. As an aside, if you are in Europe, you should be very careful about choosing a supplier who is not. GDPR compliance might not be a priority for other regions, but in Europe it is strictly enforced!
  • Your software system must play a key part in achieving legal compliance. How much does the vendor know about the laws pertaining to your activities? Ask about GDPR and IR35 (if relevant). If the salesperson can’t answer your question, it’s unlikely a support representative will be able to either!
  • How many employees do you have? Where are they based? How long have you been trading? How can I be sure that you will be here for the long term?
  • Ask for references – keeping in mind that any references provided to you are likely to be targeted.
